OTTAWA, Ontario - The 26th World University Games will see a second DePaul student-athlete compete next week as Athletics Canada and Canadian Interuniversity Sport have jointly named track and field standout Tim Nedow to represent Canada on its 2011 team. Canada's athletics squad consists of 37 university-eligible athletes, eight of whom compete as members of institutions in the United States.
Nedow, who will be a senior in 2011-12, qualified for the shot put event after a second place finish at the Canadian Senior Championships in June. The World University Games are scheduled to take place August 14-21 in Shenzhen, China. The WUG is a multi-sport competition organized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) that takes place every other year. Nedow joins fellow Blue Demon Keisha Hampton at the games after she was recently named to the USA women's basketball roster.
At this year's NCAA Outdoor Championships, Nedow garnered a second-team All-American nod as he finished 19th in the nation in shot put with a 16.85m throw. He recorded a personal and season-best outdoor throw of 18.84m. With an indoor throw of 19.18m, Nedow broke the previous DePaul record and became the first track and field student-athlete since 2002 to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
The Brockville, Ontario, native also took home the BIG EAST Conference Championship title in the outdoor competition this Spring, following up a first place performance at the conference indoor championships.
In addition to his success in competition, Nedow was also named to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Track and Field Team.
