PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Following Saturday's regular season finales, the BIG EAST Conference announced the 10-team field for the women's soccer tournament. DePaul, an at-large seed, earned the final bid to the league's postseason and is set to travel to No. 4 seed Villanova on Thursday for a 1 p.m. CT matchup.
With Connecticut's double-overtime win over Providence on Saturday night, the Blue Demons secured their place in the playoffs.
After missing the league tournament last season, DePaul (8-9-2, 3-6-1 BIG EAST) makes its return to the postseason in the BIG EAST Championships opener. The Blue Demons faced off against Villanova on Friday, Oct. 7 and earned a 0-0 double-overtime draw with the Wildcats. Should the squads go scoreless again, however, the match will be decided in penalty kicks.
The winner of Thursday's matchup faces a tough test in the BIG EAST Second Round on Sunday, Oct. 28. Either DePaul or Villanova would next travel to No. 1 seed Georgetown for the quarterfinals-set for noon CT in Washington, D.C.
In the National Division, Georgetown earned the top seed, followed by Notre Dame (No. 2), Louisville (No. 3), Villanova (No. 4), Rutgers (at-large), and DePaul (at-large). In the American Division, Marquette took the No. 1 seed, followed by USF (No. 2), Syracuse (No. 3), and Connecticut (No. 4).
