Women's Tennis Dominates Cincinnati

CHICAGO - The No. 64 DePaul women's tennis team recorded it fifth sweep of the season as it cruised past Cincinnati, 7-0 in BIG EAST Conference action at Lakeshore Sport and Fitness on Sunday.
Looking to rebound from two straight 7-0 losses the Blue Demons were all business against Cincinnati (11-7, 3-4 BIG EAST). DePaul got off to a fast and dominating start in doubles and carried its momentum and swagger into singles.
Carolin Neumann and Cali Gustafson were the first off the courts with their convincing 8-1 victory over the Bearcat pair of Carly Wilson and Sierra Sullivan. Patricia Fargas and Kelsey Lawson clinched the doubles point with their 8-0 sweep of Jasmine Lee and Ashleigh Witte on the second court.
With the doubles point in hand, DePaul's No. 64 doubles tandem of Gia McKnight and Jasmin Kling battled with Safiyya Ismail and Kristina Georgieva for every point, but it was Blue Demons who came out on top 8-7 (2).
Heading into singles DePaul (11-7, 2-1 BIG EAST) got off to a fast start with Lawson finishing off Sullivan 6-1, 6-1 on the fourth court. Patricia Fargas improved to 23-11 when she topped Kristinia Georgieva 6-2, 6-2 on the second court. Carolin Neumann clinched DePaul's 11th victory of the season when she defeated Safiyya Ismail 6-2, 6-1 on the fifth court.
With the match in hand, DePaul's remaining players continued to fight for each point and finished the dual strong.
Gustafson won her match on the sixth court 6-3, 6-3 while Kling and McKnight each used a super tie-breaker to finish off their opponents.
The 7-0 victory was the Blue Demons' fifth of the season and first since Jan. 29. The win was DePaul's third of the season on its home courts, while the Blue Demons have won their last four matches at Lakeshore Sport and Fitness.
The Blue Demons travel to Connecticut for a pair of BIG EAST duals in Storrs, Conn. DePaul plays St. John's on April 7 and UConn on April 8. The Blue Demons return to Lincoln Park for their final two matches of the regular season - hosting Marquette and USF April 14 and 15.
