No. 65 DePaul Cruises Past St. John's

STORRS, Conn. - The No. 65 DePaul women's tennis team won its second-straight BIG EAST Conference match and did so in a convincing matter - topping St. John's 7-0 at the University of Connecticut Tennis Courts on Friday afternoon. The win improves the Blue Demons to 12-6 and 3-1 in league duals while the Red Storm falls to 4-11 and is 3-3 in conference matches.
DePaul got off to a quick start by sweeping the doubles matches in dominating fashion. Cali Gustafson and Carolin Neumann swept the St. John's pair of Nakita Austin and Terri Thomas. Kelsey Lawson and Patricia Fargas followed suit and topped their opponents - Joana Zwirbulis and Ece Firat 8-1.
DePaul's No. 64 tandem of Jasmin Kling and Gia McKnight completed the Blue Demons sweep with their 8-4 victory over Nevena Selakovic and Diamond Adams.
Heading into singles, the Blue Demons played with confidence as five the six matches were won in straight sets. Fargas was the first off the courts and registered her 24th singles win of the season when she dominated Adams 6-1, 6-2 on the second court.
DePaul's four, five and six players all finished together and clinched DePaul's win over the Red Storm. Lawson won her 18th match of the season when she topped Austin 6-4, 6-1 and Neumann defeated Firate 6-5, 6-2 on the fourth and fifth courts, respectively. Gustafson won second straight match when she recorded a 7-6 (3), 6-2 win over Thomas.
Kling improved to 12-8 on the year and 10-5 in the top singles position when she finished off Selakovic 7-5, 6-3.
McKnight completed DePaul's sixth 7-0 victory of the season when the senior recorded her 87th singles victory. McKnight topped Zwirbulis 3-6, 7-6 (3), 10-2 in the third position.
The Blue Demons return to the courts on Saturday and take on Connecticut. The Huskies are coming off a 4-3 loss to St. John's on Thursday. The Blue Demons and UConn start their dual at 9:30 a.m.
