PROVIDENCE, R.I. - After notching two wins at the 2012 Drake Relays, senior Tim Nedow has earned his second BIG EAST Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week award during outdoor season.
At the Drake Relays on Friday, the Blue Demon senior bested his shot put competition by nearly a meter when he registered a new outdoor career-best distance of 19.69 meters. Nedow became just the second-ever DePaul student-athlete to win at the Drake Relays, one of the top competitions of the outdoor season.
Nedow's shot put is currently fourth-best in the nation, just a quarter of a meter behind the country's top distance. In shot put, he faced off against three student-athletes who, at the time, held the ninth, 11th, and 24th best throws in the country and bettered them all.
In a follow-up effort on Saturday, Nedow did not disappoint. Competing against throwers holding the Nos. 5, 14, and 30 ranks on the the day of the meet, Nedow trounced the competition by over two meters. His 58.30-meter throw, currently the eighth-farthest in the country, also set a new career-best mark.
The two wins should provide Nedow with a bit of momentum as the senior, along with those qualifying Blue Demons, heads to the BIG EAST Conference Outdoor Championships this weekend in Tampa, Fla. There, he is set to compete in both the shot put and discus, looking to nab his first conference discus title and his second BIG EAST shot put title.
