Two Blue Demons Compete on Day Two of Prelims

AUSTIN, Texas - On day two of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminaries, two Blue Demons took to the competition but came up short in their respective events.
Less than 24 hours after qualifying for the NCAA finals in the women's javelin throw, senior thrower Alanna Kovacs returned to the Mike A. Myers stadium to take on the discus. Kovacs finished sixth in her heat with a 48.70-meter throw but it was not enough to overcome the stiff competition.
For Matthew Graham, DePaul's lone representative on the track, the day ended much the same. In the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, the senior distance runner finished the race above the qualifying time. His time of 9:09.37 was not quite fast enough to send Graham to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.
The Blue Demons spend one more day in Austin tomorrow as Tim Nedow returns to field action for the men's discus event. After narrowly missing the shot put qualifying distance, Nedow looks to finish in the top 12 tomorrow in order to compete in Des Moines alongside Matt Babicz (shot put), Melissa Fraser (javelin), and Kovacs (javelin).
