TAMPA, Fla. - Friday was an eventful day for the Blue Demons as several DePaul student-athletes got to work in Tampa at the BIG EAST Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The most notable mark on Friday came when Melissa Fraser placed fourth in the hammer throw with a 55.91-meter distance.
Also in the hammer, Alanna Kovacs placed 19th with a 44.40-meter distance. Freshman Jacqueline Kasal took on the 3,000-meter steeplechase and placed 13th. Her 10:54.71 time fell just outside the finals qualifiers. On the men's side, Matthew Graham finished third in the same race. His time of 8:57.67, a IC4A qualifying mark, was just eight seconds off the leader.
While Friday consisted of just three events that the Blue Demons participated in, the main portions of the BIG EAST championships conclude on Saturday and Sunday in Tampa, Fla. The DePaul men and women both enter Saturday in a tie for sixth place. Live results and a live stream are available through the conference web site.
