CHICAGO - Although the season has concluded, another honor was bestowed upon a Blue Demon as senior track and field standout Tim Nedow was named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Men's Cross Country and Track Third Team on Thursday afternoon. The All-America teams are selected by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
As per CoSIDA, for a student-athlete to be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, he or she must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Nedow, a Computer Games Development major, carries a 3.57 G.P.A. at DePaul after transferring from Tulsa before his sophomore year. The Brockville, Ontario, native has found immense success both in the classroom and in competition for the Blue Demons.
During both indoor and outdoor seasons in 2012, Nedow smashed several DePaul records while earning distinction as one of the top competitors in the BIG EAST Conference. While competing in indoor shot put, Nedow registered a 20.51-meter distance to not only set the Blue Demon record, but set the BIG EAST Championships record. As a result, he was named BIG EAST Most Outstanding Field Performer at the championships.
His success did not falter after indoor season concluded, however. The senior also set new personal-best and new DePaul-best distances in both the shot put and discus during outdoor competition. His 59.24-meter discus throw and his 19.69-meter outdoor shot put toss topped the previous-best school marks. After earning second in the shot put and first in the discus at the 2012 BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Nedow once again earned the Most Outstanding Field Performer title.
Despite completing one of the most successful throwing seasons in DePaul track and field history, Nedow's academic accomplishments have not gone unnoticed. His inclusion on the All-America® Division I Men's Cross Country and Track Third Team serves to solidify that consensus.
