CHICAGO - With a road match at Cincinnati in store for Friday night before a home match against Louisville on Sunday, the DePaul women's soccer team (4-3-1) looks to start off BIG EAST Conference action on a strong note this weekend.
Cincinnati--now 3-3-1 on the season--and DePaul are set to kickoff at 4 p.m. CT on the Bearcats' home turf of Gettler Stadium. It is the first league match of the season for either side. Cincinnati--like DePaul who has dropped two straight--also enters the match on a bit of a skid as it has lost three straight after going 3-0-1 in its first four.
At the conclusion of the contest, the Blue Demons will be thrust into a quick turnaround as they return to Wish Field for a 1 p.m. matchup on Sunday against Louisville. The Cardinals have found success in the early goings of the 2012 campaign and have won five of their first six.
Before allowing five goals combined in two matches this past weekend against Iowa State and Minnesota, DePaul had displayed a stingy defense, giving up just three goals in its first six games. Even still, sophomore goalkeeper Megan Pyrz--an earlier recipient of the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week honor--has played to an impressive 0.82 goals-against average that includes two shutout efforts.
Fans can follow along on Friday thanks to Cincinnati's and can watch the Blue Demons on Sunday on both BlueTube and GameTracker.
