Blue Demons Hosts Illinois State on Monday

CHICAGO - After a nine-day break, the DePaul women's basketball team returns to the court on Monday against Illinois State. The Blue Demons and Redbirds hit the hardwood at 7 p.m. on Nov. 18 at McGrath-Phillips Arena.

DePaul (2-0) comes into Monday's game after winning the Maggie Dixon Classic with wins over Harvard and Duquesne. The Blue Demons averaged 93.5 points in their first two games while knocking down 11.0 3-pointers per game. Megan Rogowski led the assault from behind the arc and made 8of-16 from long range. Megan Podkowa, Brittany Hrynko and Jessica January all tallied three or more triples.
With DePaul shooting .471 from the field, Hrynko (16.5), Jasmine Penny (15.5), Rogowski (15.0), Chanise Jenkins (13.5) and Podkowa (11.0) all averaged double-figures. Penny, who entered the season with an impressive .544 career field goal percent, continued her proficiency in the paint and recorded a .733 (11-of-15) field goal percentage on her way to being named the MVP of the Maggie Dixon Classic. Hrynko and Jenkins were also named to the all-tournament team.
Illinois State (0-1) comes into Monday's game looking for their first win of the season. The Redbirds dropped their season opener, 61-48 at Northern Kentucky. ISU had issues controlling the ball and committed 28 turnovers in the loss.
Offensively, the Redbirds were led by Alex Foley's nine points on 4-of-8 shooting. Foley came off the bench to spark ISU and added three rebounds an assist and steal.
DePaul and Illinois State are meeting for the 13th time and the first time since the 2011-12 season. The Blue Demons have won the last six series meetings and hold a 4-0 record in Lincoln Park.
DePaul has boasted success against its rivals from the state of Illinois and has won its last 19 games. Since the 2000-01 season the Blue Demons are 65-2 against programs from the state of Illinois.
Following Monday's game the Blue Demons hit the road for their next two games. DePaul travels to No. 6.6 Notre Dame for a 6 p.m. (CT) contest on Nov. 26 before the team's Thanksgiving break. The Blue Demons then travel the short distance to Evanston for a 2 p.m. game against Northwestern.
DePaul returns to McGrath-Phillips Arena for three consecutive games beginning on Dec. 7 against Loyola. The Blue Demons then welcome No. 7/8 Kentucky for a DePaul basketball doubleheader on Fox Sports 1. The women and the Wildcats take the floor at 6 p.m., while the men host Florida Atlantic at 8 p.m. at Allstate Arena.
DePaul closes out their three-game home stretch by hosting Dartmouth at Noon on Dec. 16. DePaul's afternoon game will serve as the program's field trip game and McGrath-Phillips Arena will be packed with Chicagoland elementary students.

- Looking at Illinois State: Started the season with a pair of road games... lost its first game of the season 61-48 at Northern Kentucky on Nov. 13... Alex Foley led the Redbirds with nine points, three rebounds, an assist and steal... Barb Smith is in her first season at the helm of the Redbird program.
- Against the State: DePaul has seen recent success against in-state opponents... since the 2000-01 season, the Blue Demons have played 67 games against programs from the state of Illinois including Chicago State, Illinois, UIC, Illinois State, Loyola-Chicago, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Southern Illinois and SIU-Edwardsville... in the past 13 seasons, DePaul has boasted a 65-2 (.970) record and has won the last 19 games against school's from the state of Illinois dating back to the 2009-10 season... DePaul's two losses came at Illinois (Dec. 4, 2002) and at Northwestern (Nov. 24, 2009)... DePaul plays four school's from the state of Illinois this season - Illinois State (Nov. 17), at Northwestern (Dec. 1), Loyola (Dec. 7) and at Bradley (Dec. 29).
