Babicz Leads Blue Demons at Hoosier Open

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Senior Matt Babicz won his second straight shot put event as the Blue Demons wrapped up their second meet of the year at the Hoosier Open on Friday evening in Bloomington, Ind.
The meet, hosted by Indiana University, is DePaul's last until mid-January 2015.
Babicz tossed a best throw of 19.22 meters to top Kentucky's Brad Szypka (19.09m) by .13 meters and win the shot put event. In the same event, Trevor Kintyhtt set a personal record with a toss of 16.35 meters Then, in the 300-meter dash, freshman Sebastian Feyersinger set a new school record by crossing the finish line in 34.75 seconds, good enough for a seventh place finish.
The Blue Demons put together a strong showing in the men's and women's 1,000-meter runs. On the men's side, Scott Arsenault crossed the finish line in 2:25.92, a new personal record, for third place. Meanwhile senior Jackie Kasal finished in fifth place with a time of 2:58.65.
"We were able to accomplish a lot of quality work during these last two weeks of training," said head coach Dave Dopek. "The team's performances at these two December meets were promising. It's time that they decompress from the fall quarter, spend some time with family, recharge and come back ready to get back to work."
DePaul's next meet comes on Jan. 16 at the Mike Lints Open in Allendale, Mich.
