All-Northeast Region Teams | Regional Coaches of the Year
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Five members of the DePaul women's soccer team were named to the All-Northeast Region team, while head coach Erin Chastain was named the region's Coach of the Year, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced on Wednesday.
The Blue Demons placed one on the first team and two on both the second and third teams. Senior defender Sarah Gorden was the lone Blue Demon on the Northeast Region's first team and fellow senior Rachel Pitman landed on the second team. Joining Pitman on the second team was junior Elise Wyatt, who finished tied for the team lead in total points (21).
Newcomer Alexa Ben, who also posted 21 points in 2014, earned a spot on the third team with sophomore Abby Reed, who led the team with 12 goals this year.
DePaul's 2014 season was the most successful year in its women's soccer history. The Blue Demons went 16-1-4 overall, won the BIG EAST regular season and tournament championships, and made their second-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Chastain guided the Blue Demons to both of their 2013 and 2014 NCAA Tournament appearances and the NSCAA recognized the DePaul coach as its 2014 Northeast Region Coach of the Year.
The Blue Demons are 29-7-6 under Chastain since the start of 2013.
