FULLERTON, Calif. - DePaul softball lost its second straight game to open play at the Titan Classic on Friday, falling 6-5 to Texas Tech at Anderson Field on the campus of Cal State Fullerton.
DePaul (14-6) got multi-hit performances from Kirsten Verdun (2-for-3, R), Dylan Christensen (2-for-4, RBI) and Ali Lenti (2-for-3, R, RBI), but could not overcome a four-run Red Raider rally in the fourth inning.
Senior Megan Coronado added a two-run double in the fifth after Texas Tech's big inning, but the Blue Demons could not muster any further offense the rest of the way as the Red Raiders improved to 19-6 overall.
In the circle, Verdun went the distance allowing five earned runs and striking out eight and lost for just the third time in 12 decisions.
DePaul got on the board first in the top of the first when Morgan Maize knocked in a run while reaching on an error. Batting next, Christensen singled in Gena Lenti to stake the Blue Demons to a 2-0 lead.
Texas Tech would get a run back in the bottom of the second, but DePaul tacked on another run in the third when Ali Lenti ripped an RBI double down the left field line to plate Bonezek.
DePaul's remaining offense came via Coronado's two-run double off Texas Tech reliever Gretchen Aucoin (6-2) in the fifth.
The Blue Demons were held to just one hit in their weekend opener against UNLV and will look to get back on track with another doubleheader scheduled for Saturday. DePaul will face Canisius at 2:00 p.m. CT before meeting hosting Cal State Fullerton to cap tourney play tomorrow evening.
