
Track and Field: Five Qualify for NCAA Prelims

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Five DePaul track and field student athletes have qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds in Fayetteville, Ark., the NCAA announced on Thursday afternoon.
The competition will be held from May 29-31 at the University of Arkansas.
Matt Babicz, Mac Melto and Trevor Kintyhtt will represent the Blue Demons on the men's side, while Tayler Whittler and Jackie Kasal will compete for DePaul on the women's side.
Babicz (shot put) registered a career-best throw of 19.27 meters last week at the Cardinal Twilight (Louisville, Ky.) to push his regional ranking to No. 7 in the event. Melto will run in the 400-meter dash for the Blue Demons; his best time of 46.94 seconds ranks 34th in the west region, while Kintyhtt's mark of 53.26 meters qualified him in the discus throw (No. 47 in the region).
On the women's side, Whittler will compete in the 100-meter dash after her best finish of 11.74 seconds landed her in the No. 44 spot on the west regional list. Finally, Kasal will compete in the 800-meter run; the junior ranks 35th in the region (2:08.56).
Following the NCAA Preliminary Rounds, the 2014 NCAA Track & Field Championships will be held from June 11-14 at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
