Volleyball Swept by No. 3 Penn State

Junior Saige Gallop paced the DePaul with five kills in the match. Sophomore Randi Leath and freshman Myah Reed chipped in four kills each in the match.
Third-year standout Colleen Smith notched 11 assists, three digs and two kills to round out the Blue Demon attack.
As a team, DePaul's attack percentage of .069 (19-15-58) was its lowest of the season. The Blue Demons totaled two blocks and were held in single digits in that category for the fifth time this season.
Penn State was relentless at the net with a .586 attacking percentage (38-4-58). The Nittany Lions added 15 service aces en route to their ninth sweep of the season. Eight different players registered at least one kill in the match with Ali Franti having a team-high nine slams.
The first set began with an 11-2 run by Penn State before a service and kill by Gallop ended the streak. The Nittany Lions used a pair of kills from Nia Grant to increase the margin. Penn State went on to win the first frame, 25-8.
DePaul fell behind in the second stanza, 7-1 but saw back-to-back kills by Reed and a Penn State attacking error bring the set to within three points at the 7-4 mark. The Nittany Lions then put their foot on the gas and closed out the Blue Demons in the second set with an 18-8 run. Penn State took the set, 25-10 and went into intermission with a two-set advantage over DePaul.
After the short break, the Nittany Lions opened the third stanza with a 16-5 edge. Kills by Gallop and freshman Jasmine King highlighted a 3-0 spurt for the Blue Demons, bringing the deficit down to eight. The lead would grow to as many as 12 with Penn State taking the game's final set third, 25-13. Leath led DePaul's attack in the frame with two kills.
The Blue Demons return to the court tomorrow with a double-header, beginning with in-state foe Eastern Illinois at 10:30 a.m. and closing out the classic versus East Carolina at 1 p.m.
