Blue Demons Draw Providence in BIG EAST Playoff Opener

CHICAGO - DePaul finished the BIG EAST regular season in a tie for second place and will host Providence at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the first round of the BIG EAST Women's Soccer Championship.
The game will be broadcast by the BIG EAST Digital Network.
St. John's is the regular-season titlist with Georgetown and the Blue Demons deadlocked for the runner-up spot. By virtue of the league's tiebreaking system, Georgetown received the No. 2 seed and DePaul No. 3 in the conference tournament.
DePaul (12-3-4, 6-1-2 in BIG EAST) traveled to Providence (12-7-0, 5-4-0) on Oct. 22 and came away with a 2-0 loss.
The winner of Tuesday's match will advance to the BIG EAST Semifinals in Omaha, Neb. to take on Georgetown on Friday. St. John's will await the winner of Tuesday's game pitting No. 5 seed Marquette at No. 4 Butler.
St. John's finished BIG EAST play with a 7-1-1 mark for 22 points. Georgetown and DePaul both earned wins on Friday afternoon and wound up tied for second place with matching 6-1-2 conference marks and 20 points.
They tied during their regular-season meeting just seven days ago. The Hoyas' win over St. John's earlier in the season proved to be the tiebreaker between themselves and DePaul, clinching the No. 2 seed and first-round bye.
