NEW YORK - Impressive season-opening performances at the Blue & Gold Invitational by DePaul track and field's Trevor Kintyhtt landed him the first BIG EAST Men's Field Athlete of the Week honor this season, announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Kintyhtt earned his first weekly honor of his collegiate career after winning the men's shot put event at the Blue & Gold Invitational in South Bend, Ind. this past Friday. The junior thrower reached a mark of 16.93 meters, a new personal record, to win the event. Kintyhtt added a second-place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 17.95 meters to end his weekend.
"It was great to see Trevor come out and have some quality performances," said head coach Dave Dopek. "Starting the season out strong is a good sign that he has put in the quality of work that it will continue to take to be the best that he can be."
The Akron, Ohio native currently sits 15th in the nation for the shot put and 34th in the nation for the weight throw. Both marks are tops in the BIG EAST after the first week of competition.
"Trevor had a strong start to his season," stated assistant coach Brandon Murer. "It certainly puts him in a good position to work harder to achieve even better performances the rest of the season."
DePaul is back in competition this Friday in the Hoosier Open. The Bloomington, Ind. meet, hosted by Indiana, is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. CT start.
