Women's Tennis Sweeps Xavier to Open Saturday Doubleheader

CHICAGO -- The No. 48 DePaul women's tennis team opened its Saturday doubleheader with a dominating 7-0 victory over BIG EAST rival Xavier at Lakeshore Sport and Fitness.
DePaul will face Chicago State tonight at 6 p.m. to finish up the day.
For the Blue Demons, the match marked their sixth consecutive victory, pushing their overall record to 6-2 (1-0). Xavier fell to 4-3 (0-1).
DePaul picked up the match's opening doubles point thanks to wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. Patricia Fargas and Jasmin Kling (No. 1) beat Sydney Liggins and Amina Ismail, 6-3, while Rebeca Mitrea and Jarret Fisher handled Daniella Patton and Lauren Ghidotti, 6-0, in the No. 3 slot.
In singles play, Yuliya Shupenia remained perfect in dual matches (8-0) with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Liggins at No. 1 singles and Patricia Lancranjan won the No. 2 match over Alex Brinker, 6-3, 6-4. At No. 3 singles, Ana Vladutu topped Ismail, 6-2, 6-2, and Fargas edged Cristina Di Lorenzo in the No. 4 slot, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
DePaul's wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions were registered by Kling and Mitrea, respectively. Kling topped Ghidotti, 6-2, 6-3, and Mitrea defeated Patton, 6-3, 6-2.
DePaul's match tonight against Chicago State is the first meeting between the schools since 2012. The Blue Demons won that match, 7-0.
