CHICAGO -- Just hours after sweeping Xavier on Saturday afternoon, the DePaul women's tennis team blanked Chicago State, 7-0, to sweep the weekend twinbill and improve to 7-2 overall.
The win marked DePaul's seventh in a row. Chicago State, meanwhile, fell to 1-6.
"I was really proud of the girls' effort today," said head coach Mark Ardizzone. "The Xavier kids compete so well and you have to earn every point against them. We are fighting through some injuries but we have to keep battling."
DePaul took all three doubles matches to start the day, beginning with Ana Vladutu and Jasmin Kling's 6-0 win over Marnie Perez-Ochoa and Carynne Lloyd at No. 1 doubles. In the No. 2 match, Rebeca Mitrea and Yuliya Shupenia defeated Hanna Pangestu and Matea Roki, 6-1, and Jarret Fisher and Zaina Sufi took all six games from Faith Huckabee and Lorea Gamboa in the No. 3 slot.
The Blue Demons swept their way through singles play as well, each of the matches ending in two sets. Shupenia won her No. 1 singles match over Lloyd, 6-1, 6-0 and Patricia Lancranjan defeated Pangestu, 6-2, 6-2. Vladutu won at No. 3 singles, beating Huckabee, 6-1, 6-2, and Kling took the No. 4 match, 6-1, 6-0 over Perez-Ochoa. Mitrea topped Gamboa, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5 singles and Fisher posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Roki at No. 6 singles.
The home doubleheader marked the Blue Demons' last home matches until March 7. They'll head to the Blue Gray Invitational this week for their next test.
"We are really looking forward to playing in the prestigious Blue Gray event against some awesome competition," Ardizzone said.
