Women's Tennis Thumps Indiana for Fourth Straight Win

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- For the second consecutive year, the DePaul women's tennis team traveled to Indiana University and came away with a 5-2 victory.
The No. 47 Blue Demons improved to 4-2 with the win, while the No. 52 Hoosiers fell to 5-1. For DePaul, the win marked its first over a ranked opponent this season.
DePaul stumbled out of the gate, dropping 2-of-3 doubles matches to fall behind 1-0. However, Ana Vladutu and Zaina Sufi did post a win at No. 3 doubles for the Blue Demons. The duo defeated Sarah Baron and Katie Klyczek, 6-4.
But the Blue Demons rallied back in singles play, taking 5-of-6 to defeat the Hoosiers. Yuliya Shupenia beat Alecia Kauss, 6-3, 6-7, 1-0 (10-7) at No. 2 singles to improve to 9-0 overall this spring and 6-0 in dual matches. In the No. 3 contest, Vladutu topped Paula Gutierrez, 6-2, 6-4.
Patricia Fargas remained unbeaten in dual play with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Shannon Murdy and Jasmin Kling won a three-set match (2-6, 6-0, 6-2) over Kim Schmider at No. 5 singles. Mitrea won comfortably in the No. 6 match, beating Boren by a final of 6-2, 6-2.
DePaul has now won four consecutive matches. The Blue Demons face San Jose State at home tomorrow afternoon. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
