
Hrynko Lifts DePaul Past Xavier, 87-63

CINCINNATI - Brittany Hrynko tied a school record with eight 3-pointers in the DePaul women's basketball team's 87-63 win over Xavier on Sunday at the Cintas Center. The Blue Demons have won their last six games and improve to 19-6 and are 11-2 in BIG EAST Conference games. Xavier falls to 14-10 and is 6-7 in league contests.
Hrynko scored a game-high 32 points which came on 12-of-20 shooting. The senior guard scored 27 in the opening half and played just 27 minutes in the contest.
Megan Podkowa scored 16 points and seven rebounds. Chanise Jenkins recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 assists. Brandi Harvey-Carr finished with 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Maleeka Kynard led Xavier with 15 points.
DePaul distributed the ball like a well-choreographed dance as the Blue Demons dished out 23 assists on 35 baskets. Jenkins directed the dance and tied a career-high with 10 assists. Jessica January added six assists and Hrynko was credited with four. Two other players - Ashton Millender and Brooke Schulte -- each had at least one assist.
The Blue Demons defense caused Xavier fits and forced 29 Musketeer turnovers. The Blue Demons recorded 17 steals with Jenkins and January earning six apiece.
DePaul started the game on a 9-2 run and never looked back.
After Podkowa was credited with DePaul's first two baskets, Hrynko made her first of seven first-half 3-pointers.
Hrynko finished the first half with 27 points on 10-of-14 shooting which included a 7-of-9 mark from behind the arc. The Blue Demons went to the locker room up 47-26.
DePaul took its largest lead of the game with 61-31 with 15:43 to play when a January steal turned into a Podkowa layup.
DePaul returns home to Lincoln Park next weekend for games with Seton Hall and St. John's. Friday's game (Feb. 13) with the Pirates is set to tip at 7 p.m. Seton Hall defeated DePaul 107-87 in South Orange on Jan. 18. Sunday's game with the Red Storm is slated to be DePaul's Play4Kay game and all in attendance are encouraged to wear pink.
