Day One Complete at 49er Classic in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The DePaul track and field teams pushed several student-athletes through to the finals of Saturday's track events and had success in Friday's field events at the 49er Classic in Charlotte, N.C.
The two-day event concludes tomorrow afternoon.
On the track, Simone Carr ran a time of 58.26 seconds in the 400-meter dash to qualify for Saturday's finals and DePaul sent two to the finals of the men's 400, including Chaz Bottoms (49.04) and Sebastian Feyersinger (49.07).
Ayesha Ewing crossed the finish line in 24.68 seconds to move on to the 200-meter finals as well.
In the field events, Adam Kovacs (58.53m) placed second in the javelin and Trevor Kintyhtt took third in the hammer throw (53.43m). On the women's side, MaShayla Kirksy (5.74m) placed fourth in the long jump, while Sarah Moss took fourth in the discus (42.74m).
"We got off to a pretty good start today," said head coach Dave Dopek. "The weather was a little cooler than we hoped, but we pushed several through to the finals of track events and the weather should be better tomorrow. We have plenty of people in action and it should be a good day tomorrow."
The men's shot put competition gets things started on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. (CT).
