
Women's Tennis Defeats Providence to Open Saturday Twinbill

CHICAGO -- The 33rd-ranked DePaul women's tennis team defeated Providence in its first match of the day on Saturday, blanking the visiting Friars, 7-0.
DePaul improved to 15-4 (2-0) with the win, while Providence dropped to 6-7 (1-2).Ă‚Â
The Blue Demons will play one more match on Saturday, a 6 p.m. contest against Butler.
DePaul picked up the first point of the day by sweeping all three doubles matches. Ana Vladutu and Yuliya Shupenia shut out Alana Prinos and Emma Burgess, 8-0, in the No. 1 match, Patricia Fargas paired up with Rebeca Mitrea to topple Amanda Pitocco and Jenn DeLuca at No. 2 doubles and Zaina Sufi and Jarret Fisher beat Nicole Cyterski and Hannah Zangari by the same score in the No. 3 match.
The Blue Demons the clinched the match by emerging victorious in all six singles matches. Shupenia defeated Cyterski, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 singles and Patricia Lancranjan edged Prinos in the No. 2 position, 6-7, 7-5, 1-0. In the No. 3 contest, Vladutu topped DeLuca, 6-0, 6-1, while Fargas had no trouble with Burgess in the No. 4 slot, winning 6-0, 6-1.
Mitrea beat Pitocco, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 5 singles and Fisher took care of Zangari, 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 6 slot.
Tonight's match against Butler marks DePaul's 20th dual contest of the season.
