
Women's Tennis Tops Butler to Sweep Doubleheader

CHICAGO -- The No. 33 DePaul women's tennis team cruised past Butler, 6-1, on Saturday to complete its doubleheader sweep over a pair of BIG EAST opponents.
The Blue Demons, now 16-4 (3-0 BIG EAST) in 2015, defeated Providence earlier in the day, 7-0. Butler fell to 6-15 (0-2) with the loss in the nightcap.
DePaul led 1-0 after three doubles matches; the Blue Demons beat the Bulldogs in all three contests. At No. 1 doubles Patricia Fargas and Jasmin Kling topped Kylie Haviland and Bailey Padgett, 8-2 and DePaul's No. 2 and 3 pairs did not surrender a single game. Ana Vladutu and Yuliya Shupenia swept Angelina Qin and Grace Hyde at No. 2 doubles and Rebeca Mitrea and Zaina Sufi shut out Rachel Sutton and Michelle McFerran in the No. 3 match.
In singles play, Shupenia handled Kylie Haviland, 6-1, 6-2, in the No. 1 contest and DePaul's last four points were recorded in the Nos. 3-6 matches. Butler did register a win in the No. 2 slot thanks to Padgett.
In the No. 3 match, Patricia Lancranjan defeated Qin, 6-0, 6-2, and Fargas had no trouble in the No. 4 contest, beating Sutton, 6-1, 6-2. Mitrea topped Hyde, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5 singles and Sufi posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over McFerran in the No. 6 position.
DePaul has just two regular season matches remaining and both come against BIG EAST teams. The Blue Demons face Marquette in Milwaukee (April 17) before concluding the regular season on April 18 in Chicago against Seton Hall.
