
DePaul Shuts Out Providence, Advances to BIG EAST Semifinals

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Top-seeded DePaul blanked No. 8 Providence, 4-0, to advance to the BIG EAST Tournament semifinals on Friday afternoon in Indianapolis.
For No. 35 DePaul, the win marked its sixth in as many tries and 11th in its last 12 overall. The Blue Demons have now shut out Providence twice this season.
The Blue Demons jumped out to a 1-0 lead thanks to two wins in doubles play. Yuliya Shupenia and Ana Vladutu cruised past Jenn DeLuca and Amanda Pitocco, 8-0, at No. 2 doubles and Rebeca Mitrea and Zaina Sufi topped Nicole Cyterski and Hannah Zangari by the same score.
In singles play DePaul took the first three contests to clinch the match. Patricia Lancranjan beat Cyterski, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 singles and Jasmin Kling blanked Pitocco, 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 5 match. Mitrea won a 6-1, 6-1 battle over Zangari at No. 6 singles.Ă‚Â
DePaul will face either No. 4 Marquette or No. 5 Georgetown in Saturday semifinals.
