Three Blue Demons Conclude Season Thursday at Prelims

AUSTIN, Texas -- Three Blue Demons saw their seasons come to a close on Thursday at the NCAA Prelims at the University of Texas.
Jackie Kasal, MaShayla Kirksy and Blake Thompson each competed for the Blue Demons and were three of five student-athletes who qualified for Nationals. Now only Matt Babicz (shot put) and Bailey Dell (javelin) are left for DePaul.
In her final race as a Blue Demon, Kasal finished 44th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.32. BIG EAST champion Kirksy placed 43rd in the long jump with a best distance of 5.67 meters and Thompson registered a best throw of 52.49 meters to take 26th in the discus.
Tonight Babicz will take aim at another trip to the National Championships in Eugene, Ore., in the shot put competition. He needs to finish in the top-12 and the event begins at 6 p.m. Dell, meanwhile, will compete on Saturday in the javelin at 5 p.m.
