Dell, Kirksy Win Conference Titles at BIG EAST Championships

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - After the first day of competition at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championship Presented by New York Life, the Villanova women have created a solid lead with 68 points through six events scored. On the men's side the Wildcats are in first place with 79 points. DePaul took care of two individual conference championships, including Bailey Dell in the javelin and MaShayla Kirksy in the long jump.
The Villanova women medaled five and scored 13. Marquette finished second with 34 points, with DePaul and St. John's tied for third with 29 points each. The Golden Eagles are close behind the Villanova men with 73 points. Georgetown is third with 36 points.
In the women's long jump, DePaul's Kirksy finished first with a distance of 6.10 meters, setting a new personal record and breaking the school record. The sophomore was also the women's indoor champ in the event.
DePaul stood out in a field full of Villanova javelin competitors with rookie Dell throwing the title distance of 46.31 meters. Villanova filled the next five spots in the event, earning 26 points with just the Javelin.
Durrell McDonald (third place, high jump) and Trevor Kintyhtt (third place, hammer) also reached the podium on Friday.
The BIG EAST has named 13 event winners after one day of competition. Championship Saturday includes the finals of the decathlon and heptathlon, the discus, the shot put, the women's high jump, triple jump, 4x100-meter relay, 1,500-meter run, 110-meter hurdles, 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter dash, 100-meter dash, 800-meter run, 400-meter hurdles, 200-meter dash, 5K, 4x800-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay.
