Volleyball Closes Friday with Sweep of Grambling State

ATLANTA - In the second match of the day, DePaul volleyball (7-1) defeated Grambling State in the Georgia State Invitational Friday night, 3-0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-6). The Blue Demons have now won seven straight since dropping the first match of the 2015 season.
Jameson MacPhie and Rachel Breault led the attack for the Blue Demons with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Kendall Latshaw totaled eight service aces in the win and added six digs to her stat line.
As a team, DePaul had 16 service aces, while only committing five service errors.
Kelsey Horvath finished the match with 30 assists and five kills, both new career-highs.
On defense, Haley Bueser topped the DePaul lineup with 14 digs. She added three assists and two service aces.
With little rest between matches, DePaul came out on an 8-1 run that included three kills from MacPhie. The Blue Demons built a first set lead of 14 after a set from Horvath and a kill from Breault to make the score 23-9. A bad set from Grambling State gave the Blue Demons the 1-0 advantage.
DePaul slowly built a lead in the second set over Grambling State. After tying the match at 2-2, the Blue Demons went on a 6-1 run to pull away to an 8-3 lead. The Blue Demons used that momentum to jump out to a 20-8 advantage and closed out the set on a 4-0 run, featuring back-to-back kills from Breault and Horvath.
The third set was DePaul's for the taking after grabbing a 17-2 lead. Latshaw was instrumental to the 15-0 run in the frame with five service aces. Solid play down the stretch gave the Blue Demons the win in the set, 25-6, and the match, 3-0.
DePaul ended the match with a hitting percentage of .446 and recorded just eight errors in the three sets.
