Blue Demons Outrun Competition at Eubanks Open

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The DePaul men's and women's track and field teams shined on the track Friday night at the GVSU Eubanks Open by bringing home three event wins, setting multiple personal records and breaking one school record.
On the men's side, Scott Arsenault and Sebastian Feyersinger earned top finishes for DePaul. Arsenault blew away the competition in the 800m with a time of 1:54.45, 2.6 seconds faster than second place. Feyersinger broke his own school record in the 300m by finishing in 34.58, .17 seconds faster than his old record.
Tayler Whittler earned the lone victory on the women's side when she won the 60m dash. Whittler had the fastest time in the prelims at 7.65 and bested 51 other sprinters. In the final, the senior sprinter was first across the line with a time of 7.57, milliseconds ahead of Aaliyah McKinney of Eastern Michigan. Whittler also took fourth in the 200m (24.82).
Chaz Bottoms secured second place in the men's 200m dash when he crossed the finish line in 22.49. Bottoms earned his best finish of the indoor season and beat 37 other sprinters. The DePaul sprinter added an eighth-place finish in the 300m to his day.
For the men's 400m, Jarvis Hill was the top finisher for the men with a time of 49.45, a new PR for Hill. Hill took sixth for his effort.
Gabrielle Howard reached a distance of 11.03 meters in the women's triple jump to tie for fourth. Howard was just .12 meters from third place. Caroline Muller tied for sixth out of 29 jumpers for the women's high jump in just her second meet of her collegiate career. The freshman reached a height of 1.61 meters.
In the women's shot put, DePaul had three student-athletes place in the top 10. Emily Eller led the way in fifth place with a throw of 13.44 meters. Corinne Franz and Sarah Moss followed behind in eighth (12.47 meters) and ninth (12.46 meters), respectively.
Alex Campanella was one spot away from placing in the top 10 for the men's 3000m run. Campanella hit a new PR in the event as he crossed the line at 8:30.04, over 11 seconds better than his previous best.
Jessica Sanborn and Courtney Tedeschi each claimed top-15 finishes in the women's 3000m. Sanborn took 13th with a time of 10:34.33, while Tedeschi finished in 15th at 10:38.64.
The Blue Demons have a week to prepare before they are back in action next weekend at the Notre Dame Invitational. The South Bend, Ind. indoor meet is set to take place all day Saturday, Jan. 23.
