CHICAGO - These Blue Demons will bring a robust and impressive postseason resume into the BIG EAST Championship women's soccer tournament that kicks off Tuesday with first-round matches.
By virtue of their regular-season co-championship with Marquette, DePaul (10-6-2, 7-2-0 in BIG EAST) advances directly to Friday's BIG EAST Semifinals at Georgetown to face the winner of the Georgetown-Butler first-round match.
The Blue Demons finished the conference season leading the BIG EAST in goals, assists and points. Their league title was earned the hard way---having to face four of five BIG EAST Championship qualifying teams on the road. Marquette played four of five at home.
In addition, DePaul has the only conference win against the team with the highest RPI, Georgetown.
On the season, the Blue Demons' total of 44 goals is the second-highest mark in program history---two shy of the season record set by the 2004 team. Abby Reed leads the team with 11 goals which is one away from equaling the season record she shares with Elise Wyatt (2015) and Julianne Sitch (2003).
Coach Erin Chastain's side set a program record with a seven-game winning streak and has won nine of its last 11 matches heading into the conference semifinals.
All season, DePaul has been recognized as having one of the most potent attacks in the country. The Blue Demons are No. 11 in the nation in scoring offense, No. 15 in total goals, No. 17 in points per game and No. 22 in total points.
The Blue Demons head into the postseason with two goals in mind---capturing their second BIG EAST Championship title in program history and securing their fourth NCAA tournament appearance.
