CHICAGO - A recent scoring outburst brought the Blue Demons some well-deserved recognition from the BIG EAST Conference on Monday.
Abby Reed was chosen as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week after a total of three goals and three assists in DePaul's 4-2 victory over Creighton and a 4-1 win at Seton Hall.
In addition, teammate Taylor Schissler was selected to the BIG EAST Honor Roll after contributing two goals and an assist. The senior defender headed a back line that only allowed three shots on goal in the two games during the run of play. Seton Hall only shot on goal Sunday was a penalty kick.
Reed has sparked a goal-scoring barrage that has DePaul (6-4-2, 3-0-0) finding the back of the net 20 times in the last five games. Not coincidentally, the Blue Demons have won five in a row and have sole possession of first place in the conference.
Reed leads the team with eight goals and six assists. Franny Cerny has five goals and five assists while Schissler has five goals and four assists. Ana Greik has also scored five goals and Alexa Ben has four.
In NCAA statistics released Monday, DePaul is No. 7 in the country in goals and scoring offense, No. 11 in points per game and No. 13 in points. Reed is No. 12 in points, No. 17 in assists and No. 29 in goals.
The Blue Demons lead the BIG EAST in goals, assists and points. Reed is No. 1 in the league in points, tied for first in assists and tied for second in goals. Cerny is tied for the top spot in game-winning goals.
The next challenge for this high-powered attack is Thursday when DePaul faces Butler in a 6 p.m. BIG EAST match at the Butler Bowl in Indianapolis.
