LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Outstanding work in the classroom by the DePaul softball team was recognized once again by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). The Blue Demons earned All-Academic Team honors as 12 players were named NFCA Scholar-Athletes.
As a team, DePaul ranked No. 7 nationally in Division I with a cumulative GPA of 3.591.
DePaul is one of four BIG EAST schools recognized in the team rankings. The other BIG EAST teams include St. John's (No. 34), Providence (No. 62) and Butler (No. 63).
The NFCA recognized Cherelle Chambers, Dylan Christensen, Ellie Forkin, Kali Gardner, Morgan Greenwood, Gena Lenti, Morgan Maize, Nicole Pihl, Alysia Rodriguez, Angela Scalzitti, Naomi Tellez and Stefanie Troja for each achieving grade point averages of 3.5 or higher during the 2015-16 academic year. DePaul's 12 honorees were the most by any BIG EAST school.
The rankings and honors recognize the academic excellence of softball teams across seven membership divisions. NCAA Division I, with 1,240 honorees, had the most student-athletes with a 3.5 GPA or higher.

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) is the professional growth organization for fastpitch softball coaches from all competitive levels of play.
The idea for a softball coaching association first developed from discussions at the National Collegiate Women's Softball Championships in the early 1980s. In 1997, the Association's membership reached the 2,000 mark, and today there are more than 4,300 members.
