CHICAGO ââ'¬" Vaulting to the top of the BIG EAST Conference standings brought a multitude of postseason awards to the Blue Demons on Tuesday.
Abby Reed was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year and Alexa Ben was the unanimous choice as BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year in balloting by the league's coaches.
Reed and Ben are the first Blue Demons to win their respective awards since DePaul joined the BIG EAST in 2005.
Reed leads the team with 11 goals and 28 points and is tied for the team lead in assists with six. Ben has seven goals and three assists.
In addition, Reed, Ben and Taylor Schissler were voted onto the All-BIG EAST First Team while Lucy Edwards and Franny Cerny were selected for the All-BIG EAST Second Team. Stalwart defender Avery Hay was named to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team.
Schissler anchored the backline and was an offensive force with six goals and six assists. Midfielder Edwards did such a stellar job disrupting opposition attacks that it was like the Blue Demons had five defenders.
Cerny followed up last year's BIG EAST Freshman of the Year season with eight goals and six assists while Hay was all over the field helping to bolster the Blue Demon defense.
DePaul (10-6-2, 7-2-0) finished as regular season co-champion with Marquette and is seeded No. 2 in the BIG EAST playoffs. The Blue Demons will face the Butler-Georgetown first-round winner in Friday's semifinals at Georgetown.
