
No. 22 DePaul Defeats Villanova 80-50

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The goal was to finish strong on the first BIG EAST Conference road trip of the season.
And that's exactly what No. 22 DePaul did on Friday night after an 80-50 victory over Villanova at the Pavilion.
Brooke Schulte led the Blue Demons with 23 points and added seven rebounds as coach Doug Bruno's team improved to 10-4 and 2-0 in conference. Villanova dropped to 4-8, 0-2.
Jacqui Grant tied a career high with 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Amarah Coleman scored 17 points and finished with a career-high eight boards. Tanita Allen had 10 points and eight rebounds.
Grant and Schulte sparked DePaul's 11-4 run at the outset of the third quarter in building a 47-24 margin. Grant's nine points in the quarter led to a 59-30 lead heading into the final 10 minutes. The Blue Demons built the lead to 31 early in the fourth quarter.
Closing out the first quarter with a 9-0 run fueled by Schulte and Coleman put the Blue Demons in front 18-12. That advantage was extended to 25-16 in the second quarter as Grant scored five quick points.
DePaul kept up the attack as Villanova was unable to control tempo with its deliberate style of play. Schulte's three-pointer sent the visiting team into the halftime locker room with a 36-20 lead.
Schulte had 11 points and five rebounds at the break while Coleman contributed nine points. The Blue Demons had a 26-18 advantage on the backboard.
