DePaul Wins Multiple Events on BIG EAST Day Two

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The 2016 BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championships presented by the Jeep Brand came to a close Saturday afternoon with DePaul track and field earning eight individual conference championships from the weekend.
The biggest winner of the day for DePaul was Sebastian Feyersinger and his three conference championship medals. After earning the top spot in 200m prelims Friday, Feyersinger answered with a time that was .20 seconds faster than Friday at 21.39 and a new PR for the win. In the 400m, the sophomore won his heat and the event with a time of 48.02, almost a half second faster than the prelims.
To close the meet, Feyersinger was the anchor on the DePaul 4x400 relay team that included Chaz Bottoms, Jarvis Hill and Isaac Walker. Bottoms sprinted out of the blocks to take an early lead in the race, but his pace slowed in the final stretch. A big kick by Hill in the first lap gave the Blue Demons enough room to overtake the lead and put the finish in Feyersinger's control, holding off Ville Lampinen from Villanova to win it for the Blue Demons with a time of 3:14.33.
Tayler Whittler was uncatchable on Saturday in the 60m dash and the 200m events. The DePaul sprinter was a favorite in the 60m dash after finishing with the top time in the prelims. Whittler matched her school record for the third time this year of 7.52 to win the event. The senior was joined by Shayna Nwokenkwo on the podium after placing third at 7.65, a new PR. In the 200m, Whittler, who came into the final with the third-fastest time from prelims, had a fast start to the race and went on to claim first with a new program record of 24.11.
Trevor Kintyhtt was named the BIG EAST Men's Most Outstanding Field Performer at the conclusion of the meet. The junior thrower took home two medals from the weekend. Kintyhtt won the weight throw on Friday and placed second in the shot put on Saturday after reaching a mark of 15.95 meters. Kyle Hedge was right behind with a toss of 15.84 meters to earn a spot on the podium.
Kyle Decker enjoyed his BIG EAST Championship debut by winning the 60m hurdles Saturday with a time of 8.46, .02 in front of the runner-up. Decker bested his previous PR by .13 seconds and earned his first win of the season.
Also making a BIG EAST hurdle debut this weekend, Ariel Davis placed second in the women's 60m hurdles by hitting a time of 8.73. With that time, Davis broke her own school record that was set in the first meet of the season.
Brian Mada has dominated the BIG EAST men's triple jump all season and Saturday was no different. The freshman posted a mark of 14.78 meters and won the event, finishing a half meter ahead of William Wolf of Marquette.
For the women's shot put, DePaul finished second through fourth thanks to Emily Eller, Corinne Franz and Sarah Moss. Eller had the top throw out of the trio at 13.80 meters, while Franz reached a new PR of 13.44 meters.
Jarvis Hill set a new DePaul record in the 500m after he used a late kick on the final turn to record a time of 1:03.24. Hill took home a silver medal for his performance.
DePaul earned two spots on the podium for the women's jumping events Saturday. Gabrielle Howard finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 11.51 meters. Caroline Muller jumped over a height of 1.65 meters in the high jump and placed third after the tiebreaker.
In the only distance event for DePaul, Chris Korabik claimed a top-10 spot in the in the 3000m with a time of 8:29.79. Korabik has improved his time in the event each time he has competed and set a new PR on Saturday.
In the final team standings, the men's team finished with 124.5 points for third place, while the women took fifth with 98 points. Both scores are improvements from last year's totals. Marquette won the 2016 women's title with 168.5 points and Villanova took the men's title with 208 points.
