No. 41 Women's Tennis Falls to No. 29 MSU

Minneapolis- No. 41 DePaul women's tennis fell to No. 29 Mississippi State University in the championship round of the Courtside Classic.
The Bulldogs beat the Blue Demons (2-3) 7-0 on the courts of the Baseline Tennis Center on Minnesota's campus.
"Hats off the Mississippi State," said head coach Mark Ardizzone. "We came out flat and laid down in doubles. It's hard to recover from that against a really good team."
MSU came out strong in doubles action, defeating DePaul in No. 1 and 2 with a 6-0 score. The No. 37 ranked duo of Rebeca Mitrea and Yuliya Shupenia fell to Madison Harrison and Georgiana Patrasc while Marina Cozac and Patricia Lancranjan were defeated by Jasmine Lee and Louise Ronaldson at No. 2. Zaina Sufi and Jarret Fisher's round at No. 3 against Anastasia Rentouli and Kristina Vozniak went unfinished at 3-4.
In singles, No. 13 ranked Lee defeated Shupenia at No. 1 6-1, 6-4, Harrison bested Lancranjan 6-2, 7-6 (5) at No. 2, Mitrea dropped her match at No. 3 to Patrase 6-1, 1-6, 6-3, Sufi lost at No. 4 to No. 36 ranked Rentouli 6-3, 6-0, Fisher lost at No. 5 to Vozniak 7-5, 6-4 and Milica Tesic dropped at No. 6 to Jennifer Brown 6-2, 6-1.
The Blue Demons finished up the Courtside Classic 1-1, beating No. 60 Minnesota the day before to make it into the trophy round. The victory over the Gophers marked DePaul's first away win over a ranked team this season.
"It was great to be in this competition" remarked Ardizzone. "Coach Merzbacher and the University hosted a great event that we will look forward to coming back to year after year."
