
No. 70 Women's Tennis Blanks Creighton 4-0

Cayce, S.C. -- The No. 70 DePaul women's tennis team blanked Creighton 4-0 in the quarterfinal round of the BIG EAST Conference Tournament Friday morning at Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center.
DePaul (13-7) jumped to an early 1-0 lead courtesy of two wins in doubles play. Yuliya Shupenia and Zaina Sufi defeated Sam Anderson and Claire Embree 6-1 at No. 2. Rebeca Mitrea and Patricia Lancranjan followed with a 6-2 victory at No. 1 over Ashley Ismimura and Darby Rosette.
The Blue Demons quickly recorded their three points in singles action to clinch the match. Sufi defeated Anderson at No. 5 6-3, 6-3. Shupenia notched a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 over Ishimura. Marina Cozac wrapped up the competition at No. 3 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Katherine Nelsen.
With the win, the Blue Demons move on to the semifinal round of the tournament on Saturday, Apr. 30. They will face No. 4 Georgetown or No. 5 Marquette at 8 a.m. CT.
