Softball Defeats Seton Hall 6-2 in Game Two

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - DePaul softball clinched game two over Seton Hall with a 6-2 finish Saturday afternoon at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Field.
DePaul (23-24, 13-3 BIG EAST) etched the first run in the top of the second. After Naomi Tellez tripled, the senior scored off Megan Leyva's sacrifice fly.
Leyva, who was also in the circle against the Pirates, helped her own cause again in the fourth. After the sophomore notched her second career triple, she stole home as Alysia Rodriguez stole second.
The Pirates responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game.
DePaul's final four runs came in the seventh. With Micah Fitzgerald on third and pinch runner Cherelle Chambers on second, Morgan Maize drilled a double to score Fitzgerald. Nicole Pihl followed with a two -run double to score Chambers and Maize.
Leyva contributed to the Blue Demons' final run. With Haydn Christensen in scoring position, Leyva singled to plate the fellow sophomore for the final 6-2 mark.
Leyva (6-10) pitched a complete game for DePaul. She allowed five hits and struck out two.
Madison Strunk (14-14) recorded the loss for Seton Hall. She pitched for six and two-thirds innings, allowed eight hits, six runs and struck out one. Chrisa Head was in the circle for one-third inning and allowed one hit.
The Blue Demons and Pirates return to the field Sunday, May 1 at 11 a.m. CT for the final game of the series. The game will be broadcast on FOX Sports GO.
