CHICAGO - Months of preparation during the outdoor season has the DePaul track and field teams ready for the 2016 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships on Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14.
Events for the Blue Demons begin at 10 a.m. CT on Friday with the women's hammer throw where the trio of Emily Eller, Corinne Franz and Sarah Moss compete. The first track event is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT with Christine Mujica in the women's 1500m.
Tayler Whittler was dominant at the BIG EAST Indoor Championship earlier this year and is in prime position to be a threat to win both the 100m and 200m. The senior has a top conference time in both events at 11.60 for the 100m and 23.57 for the 200m.
Sebastian Feyersinger recorded the top time in the conference after the first meet of the season and still holds that spot in the men's 400m with a time of 47.69. Feyersinger runs in the 200m, 400m and 4x100 relay this weekend.
In the hurdle events, Ariel Davis and Alexia Harvey lead the Blue Demon women heading into this weekend's action. The freshmen are second and third in the conference with Davis having a team-best time of 14.00.
On the men's side, Evan Lowry is tops in the BIG EAST with a time of 14.86 that was set at last week's Illinois Open. Lowry is followed by Kyle Decker, the indoor short-distance hurdle champion, at 14.90. The duo along with Jarvis Hill compete this weekend in both the 110m and 400m hurdles.
DePaul relay teams are primed for spots on the podium between Friday and Saturday after recording some of the top times in the conference this season. The men's 4x400 team has the best time of the season at 3:12.76. For the women's 4x100 relay, DePaul ranks second in the BIG EAST with a time of 46.14 set at the Drake Relays.
The BIG EAST indoor triple jump champion Brian Mada is atop the leaderboard for the event with a distance of 15.25 meters. The freshman is the favorite going into the event as the only student-athlete to surpass 14 meters in the conference this season.
Between the shot put and discus events, the Blue Demons hold eight of the top 12 positions. DePaul has the top two marks in both discus events. Moss leads the way for the women at 49.46 meters, followed by Franz at 45.24 meters.
On the men's side, Blake Thompson is first in the discus with a toss of 52.25 meters and Trevor Kintyhtt is right behind at 50.20 meters. Kintyhtt is also the top student-athlete in the men's hammer throw with a throw of 58.32 meters, set at the DePaul Invitational earlier this season.
