Softball Bows Out in the BIG EAST Championship Semifinals

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- DePaul softball's season came to an end Friday afternoon with a 10-6 loss to Butler in the BIG EAST Softball Championship semifinals at the Ballpark at Rosemont.
No. 1 DePaul (27-25) notched the first run of the game in the first inning. With bases loaded and one out, Sabrina Kuchta's sacrifice fly to right field plated Dylan Christensen.
No. 4 Butler (27-22) etched a run in the top of the second before the Blue Demons responded with another run that same inning.
With Micah Fitzgerald on first and Gena Lenti on second, Dylan Christensen doubled to score Lenti.
The Bulldogs tied the game again with a run in the third.
In the fourth, a grand slam beyond the left field fence by senior slugger Naomi Tellez put DePaul up 6-2. It would be the last time the Blue Demons scored.
Butler went on to tally seven runs in the fifth and one in the sixth for the final 10-6 mark.
Morgan Maize (18-15) pitched a complete game for DePaul. She allowed eight hits and struck out six.
Mikeila Boroff (10-4) recorded the win for the Bulldogs. She allowed six hits, five runs and struck out three in three and one-third innings pitched. Kristin Gutierrez earned the save. She pitched for three and two-thirds innings, allowed four hits, one run and struck out five.
Butler moves on the BIG EAST Softball Championship title game on Saturday, May 14 at 2 p.m. CT. The Bulldogs will face the winner of No. 2 Villanova/No. 3 St. John's.
