Morgan Maize Named to NFCA All-Region Team

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - DePaul softball's Morgan Maize was named to the NFCA Division I All-Great Lakes Third Team on Thursday. She joins 384 student-athletes from 157 programs to earn All-Region accolades.
The award honors softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third teams selected. NFCA member coaches from each region voted on the teams. Those honored are now eligible for selection to the 2016 NFCA Division I All-American teams.
Maize, the unanimous BIG EAST Player of the Year, was named all-region at utility/pitcher.
The Franklin Park, Ill. native boasts a .384 batting average in all 52 games started and played this season. Maize tied for first on the team and in the BIG EAST Conference with 10 home runs. She led the Blue Demons with 42 runs and was second on the team with 48 RBI.
In the circle, Maize collected 18 victories in 38 appearances. Over 203.2 innings pitched, she recorded a 3.75 ERA and four shutouts. Maize notched 173 strikeouts over the course of the season, which included a career-high 14 against Butler on Apr. 17.
Maize's latest honor marks another impressive stat on her senior year resume. Aside from being named BIG EAST Player of the Year, she was named NFCA Player of the Week, to the All-BIG EAST first team and BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week twice.
DePaul's (27-25) 2016 campaign ended when the Blue Demons lost in the semifinals of the BIG EAST Softball Championship to Butler. DePaul entered the tournament BIG EAST Regular Season Champions for the first time since 2014.
The 2016 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced on Wednesday, June 1 at 4 p.m. CT via NFCA.org.
