Mada, Whittler Close Outdoor Seasons at West Prelims

LAWRENCE, Kan. - On the final day of the NCAA West Preliminaries, Tayler Whittler and Brian Mada represented DePaul track and field with top-30 performances in their respective events.
Mada jumped in flight two of the four flight triple jump event Saturday morning. The freshman opened with a jump of 14.40 meters and followed up with 14.84 meters. Mada had one more chance and hit his best mark of the day by reaching 15.08 meters, tied for the third-best jump of the flight.
After the four flights were completed, Mada tied for 26th overall with Basil Okoroike of UC Davis and Jaheel Lilly of Central Arkansas among the 46 competitors. Mada moved up seven spots from his regional ranking of 33rd coming into the event and was the third-highest freshman finisher.
In her second event of the regional, Whittler took her spot in the sixth and final heat of the women's 200m. Whittler used a strong push in the final 50 meters to overtake two runners and finish fifth in her heat with a time 23.79.
Whittler closed out her collegiate career by placing 28th overall out of 45 finishers. The senior was seeded 47th coming into the event, an improvement of 19 spots.
The NCAA West Prelims marked the completion of the 2016 outdoor season for the DePaul track and field program.
