Final Tune-Up for DePaul at Illinois Open

CHICAGO - A midweek meet at the Illinois Open on Wednesday, May 4 serves as a final tune-up for the DePaul track and field teams before the BIG EAST Championships. Events in Champaign, Ill. begin at 2 p.m. CT with the hammer throw. DePaul begins the track events at 6 p.m. CT with the men's 3000m steeplechase.
The full throwing squad is set to compete between the hammer, shot put and discus events. On the men's side, Trevor Kintyhtt, Isaac Jimenez and Will Hauser throw in all three events. It could prove to be an important day for Kintyhtt as he currently sits 55th in the West for the hammer throw. Emily Eller, Sarah Moss and Corinne Franz throw in just the hammer event for the Blue Demon women.
In the track events, DePaul runs in a mix of different distances.
Four sprinters participate in the women's 100m dash. Tayler Whittler, Shayna Nwokenkwo, Jessica Watkins and Taylor Farley each take spots in the 100m event. Whittler is right on the edge of qualifying for the NCAA West Preliminaries in the event and ranks 49th (top 48 qualify). Nick Meersman is the only men's sprinter competing in the event for DePaul.
Eight different Blue Demons are scheduled for the men's and women's 800m events. Six different men's student-athletes run in the race, while the women send Nora Smith and Lauren Sharp.
In the women's 1500m, Christine Mujica, Miranda Rea and Jessica Harris represent DePaul on Wednesday. On the men's side, Jake Pecorin and James Ryan are set to run the 1500m.
Sebastian Feyersinger, Chaz Bottoms, Jeffrey Sattler and Sergio Llanes take part in the men's 400m for DePaul. Sattler has enjoyed his outdoor season with the Blue Demons, breaking two individual school records and being part of two relay records. On the women's side, Simone Carr and Laura Edwards represent the Blue Demons.
Four different relay teams are set to run on Wednesday. The Blue Demons have a team in the women's 4x100, women's 4x400 and two men's teams in the 4x400. Last weekend at the Drake Relays, the women's 4x100 team set a season-best time of 46.14.
