CHICAGO- A familiar face is making her way back to the DePaul softball program. Softball head coach Eugene Lenti announced the hiring of former player, Lynsey Ciezki as an assistant coach on Monday.
"We are super excited to have Lynsey back in the program with us, this time at the coaching level," said Lenti. "As a player, her versatility and hard work were some of her greatest assets for us. I know she will bring those same attributes as a coach."
Ciezki played for DePaul from 2009-2012. She made the All-BIG EAST Third Team in 2010 and was a two-time BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament Team member in 2011 and 2012. Ciezki helped the Blue Demons to an NCAA tournament appearance every year, including a trip to the NCAA Regional Finals in 2011.
"I could not be more honored to be part of this DePaul coaching staff," said Ciezki. "I have nothing but respect for Eug and Lindsay. I can't wait to continue to learn from them."
The Medinah, Ill. native played infield and outfield at DePaul. Notably in her senior campaign, she was nominated for the prestigious Lowe's Senior CLASS Award and tallied a team-high 34 runs.
"Having played here, I feel like I have a good grasp on what we want to accomplish as a team and coaching staff," said Ciezki. "I'm looking forward to working with our infielders, slappers and seeing how far this team can go."
Ciezki started to build her coaching resume during her playing days, working as an instructor for DePaul softball camps. From there, she gave private lessons and offensive and defensive clinics to players from the suburbs of Chicago.
In 2012, Ciezki became an assistant softball coach at Harper College. She assisted the Hawks in recruiting, fundraising, practice and game day planning.
During the fall of 2015, she became the assistant for the 16U Beverly Bandits travel team. This summer, the Bandits qualified for the PGF Nationals in Huntington Beach, Calif. and tied for fifth at the 16U Independence Day tournament in Boulder, Colo.
"Lynsey is familiar with the recruiting scene here being an Illinois native, a player in the program and most recently, a travel ball coach to a successful team," said Lenti. "I know her skill and enthusiasm will move this program forward."
Outside of the coaching scene, Ciezki worked as a physical education teacher in Melrose Park and Maywood, Ill. and at the Hamilton Lakes Athletic Club.
Ciezki graduated Cum Laude from DePaul in June of 2012 with a bachelor's degree in physical education. She was on the BIG EAST All-Academic team and the Athletic Director's Academic Honor Roll all four years.
