KALAMAZOO, Mich. - DePaul could not sustain a solid first-half effort in Sunday's exhibition season finale.
Western Michigan scored twice in a three-minute span early in the second half as the Blue Demons fell 2-0 in their final tune-up before Friday's season opener.
Behind goalkeeper Quentin Low and a back line headed by Caleb Pothast, DePaul kept the Broncos off the scoreboard in the first half. Last week, the Blue Demons gave up two early goals in a 2-1 exhibition loss at Western Illinois.
On Sunday, Western Michigan opened the scoring in the 59th minute on a header by Brandon Bye who connected off a long free kick from Adam Boch.
Three minutes later, Bye made it 2-0 with a shot from the left side of the box into the right corner off an assist from Connor McNulty.
DePaul coach Craig Blazer and his staff will evaluate the two preseason matches and make the necessary adjustments before the regular season kicks off Friday at Oregon State.
