8/5/2016 12:00:00 AM | TRACK AND FIELD
CHICAGO --- At tonight's opening ceremonies of the 2016 Olympics, DePaul women's basketball coach Doug Bruno and former All-American thrower Tim Nedow will march with the other elite athletes from around the world.
Bruno, who is participating in the opening ceremonies for the second straight Olympics, serves as an assistant coach for the USA Women's Basketball Team.
The women's team is going for an unprecedented sixth-straight Olympic gold -- a feat that has never been accomplished in a women's traditional team sport. Bruno has been a member of USA coach Geno Auriemma's staff since 2009 and has helped the women to a pair of FIBA World Championships as well as Olympic gold in London.
Nedow, a 2012 graduate, is the first thrower in DePaul program history to qualify for the Olympic Games and will represent Canada in the shot put. The shot put is scheduled to take place on Thu., Aug. 18
