High-Powered DePaul Attack Topples Illinois-Chicago 4-0

CHICAGO - The nation's No. 7 team in goals kept up its torrid pace Wednesday at Wish Field.
Powered by Simon Megally's pair of strikes, DePaul scored four times in the second half for a 4-0 victory over crosstown rival Illinois-Chicago.
The Blue Demons won their fourth in a row at Wish Field, improved to 4-1-2 overall and have outscored opponents 17-5 on the season.
Megally got the scoring parade going early in the second half on a wicked shot from 22 yards into the upper left in the 47th minute. Max de Bruijne and Caleb Pothast were credited with the assists.
Philipp Koenigstein added the initial insurance goal in the 65th minute into the lower right of the Flames net after a long pass from de Bruijne.
In the 76th minute, Hans Wustling lofted a cross that Koenigstein headed towards the net and Jake Scheper finished off.
Megally closed out the scoring in the 78th minute on a shot from left of the box into the far post with Wustling picking up his second assist.
"Win at Wish" has become a team slogan as the Blue Demons are now 4-0-0 at home and have outscored opponents 14-1 in Lincoln Park.
Up next is the biggest test of the season so far, the BIG EAST Conference opener Saturday against Xavier.
Notes
- The Blue Demons outshot UIC 20-7 and had a 9-5 edge in shots on goal. They came away with a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
- Megally led the way with five shots and four on goal.
- Quentin Low and Trevor Wilson combined for the team's third clean sheet.
- Wustling and de Bruijne each had a pair of assists. Pothast picked up his first assist of the season.
- Wustling, a junior, has 14 career assists which ties him for sixth all-time in program history.
- The last time DePaul had four wins this early in the season was 2007, and that Blue Demon side finished 12-8-0.
- UIC starting goalkeeper Andrew Putna was assessed a red card in the 13th minute, forcing the Flames to play with 10 players the rest of the match.
