CINCINNATI - For 81 minutes, the Blue Demon defense kept the zero in the face of a steady Xavier attack.
But a foul in the box against DePaul in the 82nd minute resulted in the game-defining penalty kick of a 1-0 loss in the BIG EAST Conference opener Saturday at Gettler Stadium.
Majed Osman beat goalkeeper Quentin Low with a shot in the middle of the net as Low dove to his left hoping to anticipate the attempt. It was Osman's first goal of the season as Xavier improved to 3-2-2, 1-0-0 in the BIG EAST.
DePaul (4-2-2, 0-1-0) had come into the match as one of the top scoring teams in the country with 17 goals in its first seven games.
But Xavier's defense contained the Blue Demon attack while the Musketeers offense kept the ball in DePaul's half of the field.
Coach Craig Blazer's side returns to action on Wednesday with a showdown against rival Northwestern in Evanston.
