Women's Tennis Defeats Valparaiso 7-0

VALPARAISO, Ind. - The DePaul women's tennis team clinched its first match of the dual season with a 7-0 sweep over Valparaiso Saturday evening on the Courts of NWI in Valparaiso, Ind.
DePaul (1-0) started its doubles surge against the Crusaders (0-1) beginning with the No. 3 doubles tandem of Patricia Lancranjan and Marina Cozac. The two defeated Kat Hebble and Paige Hener 6-3. Yuliya Shupenia and Florence Abbott followed at No. 2 with a 6-1 finish over Meg Modento and Dao Sysenvanh. Keisha Clousing and Aspasia Avgeri clinched the point at No. 1 with a 6-3 win over Kat Hebble and Paige Hener.
No. 87 Shupenia etched the first singles point with a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Hebble at the No. 1 spot.
Clousing saw her first singles win as a Blue Demon at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Hener.
Lancranjan notched a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Modento at No. 3 while Marina Cozac recorded a win at No. 5 over Jordan Kopfor 6-1, 6-2.
DePaul's newcomers, Abbott and Avgeri, wrapped up the rest of singles play.
Abbott defeated Wind 6-1, 6-4 at No. 6 as Avgeri bested Sysenvanh 6-0, 6-2.
The Blue Demons return to competition on Sunday at home on the courts of Lakeshore Sport & Fitness to take on Harvard at 1 p.m. The event marks DePaul's first at home.
