CHICAGO - The DePaul women's soccer team welcomes Butler to Wish Field on Saturday as the Blue Demons will honor its 2017 senior class, consisting of Alexa Ben, Kassandra Cerda, Lucy Edwards, Elizabeth Endy, Lauren Frasca, Sonia Johnson, and Jessie Schmidt, on Senior Day in Chicago.
The class of 2017 is one of the most successful senior classes in DePaul women's soccer history as the group has combined for a 43-18-13 record (through Oct. 13, 2017), winning two BIG EAST regular season titles (2014, 2016) and one BIG EAST tournament championship (2014).
DePaul (5-7-2) is in search of its second BIG EAST win after drawing with Xavier in Cincinnati last weekend. Junior Franny Cerny continues to lead the Blue Demons' offensive attack, tallying 16 points with seven goals, placing her second in the BIG EAST, and two assists. Ben is close behind Cerny with four goals on 31 shots.
The Blue Demons have scored the third-most goals (18) in the BIG EAST this season while firing off 142 shots, 73 of which have been on goal.
Butler enters Saturday's contest on a 12-match unbeaten streak that dates back to its only loss of the season against Ohio on Aug. 20. The Bulldogs, who are 10-1-3 on the season, also carry an undefeated mark in BIG EAST play with a 3-0-2 record. In their last time out, Butler edged St. John's 1-0 in Indianapolis.
The Bulldogs have the second-most goals in the BIG EAST this season, tallying 24 strikes. In conference play, Butler has connected for six goals in five matches. Thirteen different Bulldogs have scored in 2017 where Paige Monaghan and Caitlyn Disarcina lead the way with five each. Monaghan leads the Bulldogs with 15 points, adding five assists to her five goals.
In goal, the Bulldogs have carried the mentality of "goalkeeper by committee" in their matches. Together, Hannah Luedtke (7-1-2) and Leonie Doege (3-0-1) have combined for eight shutouts this season where each has also recorded two solo shutout efforts. As a unit, the duo has only allowed two goals all season while making 25 saves apiece. Overall, Butler's goalkeepers carry a 0.13 goals against average through 14 matches.
DePaul leads the all-time series with Butler 4-1-1, outscoring the Bulldogs 10-6. The Blue Demons are 3-0 at Wish Field against Butler. DePaul has won the last two meetings against the Bulldogs, taking a 1-0 victory in the two squads' last meeting on Oct. 6, 2016.
